Toward emotionally sober living

Supporting transition age youth (16-25) and adults of all genders and neurotypes recovering from trauma, grief, codependency, addiction, & family dysfunction.

MY APPROACH

My approach as a therapist is relational, attachment-focused, and systems-oriented. In short, that means I believe relationships are where the action is.

Relationships are the context (and sometimes cause) of much of the pain we experience and carry through our lives. Often these are formative relationships earlier in our development, when we are more dependent and psychologically vulnerable, but they can certainly be contemporary as well. It may take the form of physical or emotional abuse or neglect or an experience of not belonging that we simply feel on a gut level. If the pain remains unresolved, it might manifest over time as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, codependency and addiction, relationship stress, physical ailments  and more.

Because relationships are the locus of much of our pain, I also understand them to be the most potent healing agent available to us. Relationships that are caring, attuned, and reliable are the building blocks of a resilient Self. They provide a baseline sense of security that enables us to live courageously and ambitiously in love, work, and other domains. Such relationships are possible in individual, conjoint, and group therapy. They can offer corrective emotional experiences and yield perspectives and feedback about our personalities and interpersonal patterns that we cannot give ourselves. Insight like this is invaluable and can illuminate new ways forward into more real and rewarding relationships. If this sounds like what you are after, I may be able to help you.
